MAGICAL MILE
Come join our team as we walk the Magical Mile. While there are other cancer-affiliated walks that take place throughout the year, we want to encourage our fairies to form a little walk of their own. After all, what better way to stand for something than to walk the walk? We will provide all the necessary information in our Magic Fairy Box – everything from planning to implementation. All we need from you is to believe in the magic. So say it with us…”I believe in magic”.

MAGIC FAIRY BOX

Find Fairies
Before you start doing anything, look for people who are willing to help. They can be friends, family, coworkers, or folks who are passionate about finding a cure for pediatric cancer. You just want to make sure you’ve got some support.

Pick Your Spot
There are many places you can hold your walk: in a park, on a school track, a forest preserve - the options are endless. You’ll also want to pick a spot where you can have a little celebration after folks cross the finish line. Once you’ve secured a spot, set a distance. Shorter distances are less intimidating so anything between one to three miles are ideal. Keep in mind that some areas may require a local permit so you’ll probably have to contact the local police department for additional details.

Who Are You?
What better way to sell the walk than to come up with a catchy name. Feel free to be as creative as you’d like. This is your way of letting people know what your walk is about. If it’s in memory of a loved one or in honor of a cause, you can call it “Walk for Mary” or “Walk for Pediatric Cancer”.

Promote, Promote, Promote!
Once you have all the logistical details sorted out, you want to market your event to as many people as you can. Lucky for you, there are so many platforms at your disposal such as social media, email marketing, word of mouth, posters/flyers, local papers, community/neighborhood portals, radio stations, etc.
Sign Me Up & Show Me The Money
Now that you’ve created some buzz around your walk, you want to sign people up. You can do this by creating your own sign-up sheet online or via email. You also have the option of charging a registration fee or setting a minimum goal on what people should aim to collect in terms of pledges. You can also set your own overarching team goal. We also have a really cool feature you can utilize to collect donations. It’s our team fundraising/crowdfunding initiative which can be found by clicking the link below:

Find Your Support
You should try and find as many sponsors as you can from local and national businesses. In exchange for their monetary or in kind donations, you can advertise their company name/logo on t-shirts, banners, etc. You can even offer to let them host a booth in the celebration area.

Ready, Set, Walk!
Today’s the big day! Make sure you’ve laid out an agenda so that you can stay on task. Since this is a walk, there shouldn’t be too many supplies that are needed but it would be a good idea to come an hour or two before to set up. You’ll want snacks and some water for the walkers, a few tables for registration, and a cash box to collect donations. After the event, take some time to debrief and see how you could improve for the following year. Then pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
